Mt. Tzouhalem

Mt. Tzouhalem is a popular riding area just east of Duncan, BC on Vancouver Island. There's a little doubletrack, there is slow technical singletrack, and flowing fast swoopy stuff. There are no major streams to cross and no big mud bogs. There is a little bit of exposed trail when you start downhilling from the summit on the singletrack. Its tough to describe a loop through the area because it's really littered with an entertaining network of trails. The best way to find a bitchin' loop is to hook up with some locals. If you are there without a local escort, dont worry, it'll still be fun. Its easy to get lost on this network, but tough to get stranded due to the relatively small size of the area and its proximity to civilization.

To get there, you go into Duncan on Hwy 1 and head east on Trunk Rd. (There is a large Chevron station on the corner.) The road forks - keep left. After about 1-2 km, the road forks again. Keep left again and now you're on Maple Bay Rd. Soon you will be in the neighbourhood of planned communities. Ugh! Look for a large sign on the right for "The Properties." This is Kingsview Rd. Head up the hill and park your car at the park that is at the foot of the residential development. You should see tennis courts on the left and other riders if you are there on a weekend. The trailhead is across the park by the swings and the slide. No trials in on the tennis court. Remember, there are lots of houses around so keep your head up for other trail users at any time of day and any day of the  week.
